The tour of about an hour costs nothing. The Wageningen Orange Foundation initiated this tour. This club there is working hard to slowly but surely give Wageningen’s King’s Day more and more substance and focus on all Wageningers, young and old. Liesbeth Lossez of the Wageningen Orange Foundation explains, “On King’s Day, we already do a few things for children and the elderly, but of course there are many more people for whom something nice can be arranged. Hence this Kings Day walk in cooperation with the people, who provide tours in Wageningen throughout the year. Just take a look at www.rondleidingenwageningen.nl. In this way, we hope to turn Wageningen’s King’s Day into something more beautiful. There is more and more life in Wageningen’s King’s Day. Every year it becomes more and more of a party! When we asked the people of the guild, there was an immediate and enthusiastic response. It will be a guided tour along striking points, doable for everyone, because it takes no longer than an hour. The guides know SO many fun facts!” The starting point is at noon at Hotel de Wereld. The tour ends where it began: at Hotel de Wereld. A group of about fifteen people always leaves at intervals with an expert guide.
SPONTAAN No need to sign up: just come spontaneously. Then another group of about fifteen people leaves, also with a guide. So there is no getting in each other’s way, as the guides are creative in devising the route. The last group leaves around 1:30. One can also register oneself as a complete group of at least 10 people. You do need to register in advance at: info@rondleidingenwageningen.nl. The guides also speak English upon request. Arnold Braaksma is guide coordinator: “Every guide has more than enough knowledge of all the sights along the way. Each guide, with his basic knowledge, will of course give his own interpretation of it, but how interesting it is to learn about your city, of which you already think you know so much. Be surprised, I would say!” The walk also depends on the questions, which visitors ask along the way. The march will not go through High Street (dress market) and not through crowds. Leon Verdonschot of Gilde Wageningen: “There is so much to tell about Wageningen’s fascinating history, the Second World War and about Wageningen as a city of knowledge. A lot was broken during the war, but of course there are the stories. An hour is long enough”.
