Game rules free market
The free market has become an annual event on King’s Day in Wageningen’s Hoogstraat and side streets. The Free Market starts at 9:30 am and lasts until 5:00 pm. At this Free Market, everyone (children up to 12 years old accompanied by an adult) can offer their old stuff for sale and/or display their talent. The exact area, where the Free Market is allowed (click for map), is indicated on the flyer of the Orange Foundation*. The Kapelstraat and Junusstraat (renamed Oranjestraat on King’s Day) are completely available and form the run-up to the Junusplein with the Do-Market!
Permitted items at the Free Market
Anything from toys to textbooks, a sandwich iron or set of tent poles, an old children’s bike or coat hangers can be offered at the free market! Commercial activities and sales of new merchandise and large items such as furniture, refrigerators and stoves, etc. are not permitted. What this includes is not for the Orange Foundation to judge but for the Municipality (supervision and enforcement)*.
This is how to get a spot
Everyone is looking for his/her own spot. In order for everyone to get a spot, the spots should not be larger than about 3 x 2 meters. So you cannot reserve a spot. In the middle of the streets, a free driving lane at least 3.5 meters wide must be kept clear for the benefit of emergency services.
Rules for shopkeepers
Shopkeepers whose stores will be open on King’s Day will keep their own access clear by means of ribbons or bills. You are not allowed to place your rug on terraces or in front of stores that are open.
It is not permitted to drive a car into High Street for loading/unloading items.
The instructions of the permit holder (the Oranjestichting Wageningen), police, fire department and designated officials of the municipality, must be followed immediately. First aid posts and information points (also for example parent seeks child) are indicated on the map on the flyer.
Afterwards, everyone makes sure that the unsold items are taken away and the place is cleaned up again.
Participation in King’s Day activities and/or the Free Market is entirely at your own risk. The board of the Oranjestichting Wageningen is explicitly not liable for any damage or consequential damages incurred during Kings Day in Wageningen.
Have fun and good business!
See you on Monday, April 27!
